Retro. Computer. Posters.
Yes, this is an ad for the Posters I create on my Etsy store.
I make posters. I format them. I sell them. And you can get one on my Etsy Shop.
It all started in 2022, or was it 2023? I don’t even remember. Anyways, a redditor made a post asking for help on where to acquire a set of vintage Apple posters he had recently lost in a house fire. I took it upon myself to offer my services. I searched high and low for the posters and alas, my efforts were unsuccessful. Then it hit me, I’m a digital artist. I’ve designed packaging, characters and icons, what’s a remastering of a few vintage posters?
I quickly obtained all the digital assets (my fancy way of saying high resolution images) in the posters, assembled them and successfully recreated all the posters and delivered them to the redditor for free.
Before this, I was already a huge fan of Apple computers and the ecosystem they built (not in a mindlessly loyal fan boy way) which is how I came across the poster’s dilemma. From then on I had an idea. I could simply remaster all old posters that were hard to find and make it available to many…for a small fee. I wasn’t a fan of that idea at first. Not until I came across this poster (pictured below).
I am a sucker for transparent tech. Think atomic purple gameboy, the Nothing earbuds and those see-through Playstation controller shells. This poster did not depict a see though device but a still image of an old Macintosh with the circuit board visible. It was like crack for my artist and nerd brain, pardon the crude simile. Then it hit me. It’ll be really fun to draw this.
I set out to find a high resolution version I could use to recreate it because as you can see above, the poster is not exactly high resolution. My search was futile. So I turned to, if we’re being honest, one of the internet’s most reliable sources of information, reddit. The palace where this desire had been birth. I asked several community members of retro tech forums for images of the IIe’s. I figured if I couldn’t find it, I’d recreate it. I currently have a folder of pictures Apple IIe’s from facebook, reddit, Flickr, hell even instagram. All sent to me by passionate Apple computer fans. I wasn’t going to let them down.
I worked tirelessly on the poster within Clip Studio Paint. I did my best to match the title font but I’d be lying if I didn’t mention that it was a bit tough. All my hard work paid off and I finally released it on Etsy. After numerous posters, it still is one of my best sellers.
This pushed me to ‘redraw’ more vintage posters of the things I liked. The ultimate fusion of ‘nerdery’ and artistry. I subsequently worked on a series highlighting the history of Sony’s flagship game console, the Playstation. I even delved into some Commodore advertisements. But I’ll expand on that in another blog. I recreated a byte poster at the request of one of my patrons. For now, here’s a screenshot of my store showing what I have worked on as a labor of love and all things nerd.
I hope you share my enthusiasm for computers and enjoy the posters.
